“To my mind, there is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly and compassionately with one another and to preserve and cherish that pale blue dot, the only home we’ve ever known.” — Carl Sagan

Working with a financial advisor is an important step in the pursuit of your financial goals. At Blue Dot Wealth Management, let’s work together to help solve your greatest challenges.

Our Team

At Blue Dot Wealth Management, we recognize that acting with integrity, serving honestly, and being motivated by a code of ethics is just the bare minimum of what a financial advisor should bring to every relationship. As the late astronomer Carl Sagan said, it is “our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another.” We are driven to understand the values of our customers to better work together and create growth toward their goals. We model each portfolio as a reflection of the unique person and circumstances that it serves.

After 20 years in the industry, Rob Young founded Blue Dot Wealth Management to create an environment of service in line with the values of our customers. Reflecting on the dot com bubble, recovering from the housing bubble, and preparing for future uncertainty, we recognize how important it is to be diverse and adaptable no matter the investing climate. After all, everything we’ve ever known fits on a pale blue dot. Our mission is to create value in the lives of our clients by helping families, businesses, and nonprofits leave a legacy that reflects their values.

Blue Dot Wealth Management is an independent firm, which means we are not employees of an investment or financial services firm. Our independent broker-dealer, Cambridge Investment Research, Inc., enables us to offer financial services based on what is truly best for our clients. We have the freedom to structure our business in a manner that best serves our clients.

He found a limit to that dream in his early twenties, missing the NJCAA World Series by one game. What We Do

Financial Planning

Every client brings a unique story to the relationship we build together. Your financial plan should reflect that as well. A good plan blends art and science, tells a story about where you are now and gives us an outline for where your next chapters are going to take you. We know first hand that life can be unpredictable but the things that are important to us rarely change. We want to know your “why’s” so we can help you answer the “how’s”.

Personal Retirement Planning

Retirement has a different meaning to everyone we work with. Few of our clients look forward to a “traditional” retirement. Our clients typically crave something more – time, freedom and flexibility, and significance. Most of our clients have a collection of retirement accounts and assets that they have built over a number of decades and navigating the decisions surrounding them can be complex. By having a ‘retirement roadmap’ in place ahead of time, we can help clients transition confidently into their next chapter. Regardless of where you are in your journey we can meet you there and help.

Small Business Planning

Entrepreneurs have a lot on their plate. They are often the CEO and the janitor and usually have worn every hat in between while bringing their company from start up to its current form. Choosing a retirement plan platform requires some degree of time and consideration. Every provider has their strengths and weaknesses and the rules change regularly. We cut through the jargon and help business owners tailor a plan that fits where they are today. Offering a retirement savings plan not only helps secure the owner’s future, but it can help employees secure theirs.

Insurance Planning

No financial plan is complete without thinking about what happens when we aren’t around anymore. While these conversations can be difficult (nobody likes to think about it), they are often about “the big picture” – who we love, how we want to provide for them, and the kind of legacy we want to leave. We want to help clients protect what they have built and an important part of that is centers on their health and life. Whether you have questions about providing security for your family or have questions about Long Term Care, we can help.

College Savings Plans

The families we work with pass certain values to their children and grandchildren and that can look different for everyone. Whether you have questions about saving for primary school or college, saving for a child’s wedding, or teaching them financial independence, we have the tools and resources to help.

Legacy

My grandfather passed away when my mom was 13 and it changed the trajectory of my family forever. Our family story isn’t unique but it also could have been prevented with just a little planning. Helping families grow, manage, and pass on a legacy is important and we take it seriously. After years of working at a large Wall Street firm, I decided the best way to serve my friends and clients was to start a firm that focuses on my clients – their goals and their best interest. We think that the financial plan we create and the investments you own should tell a story about you and your values. We have used Environmental, Social, and Governance metrics as part of our investment process for nearly 20 years.

Why We Do It

“When we are young
Wandering the face of the earth
Wondering what our dreams might be worth
Learning that we’re only immortal
For a limited time”

from the song “Dreamline” by Rush

I have a number of things I enjoy. I have always been inclined to trying new things if it seemed like it would be fun or piqued my interest. I am, however, only passionate about a few things: My family, music (and art in general), and the people I care about.

When I started in the Financial Services industry in 1997, I was fresh out of college with a clear idea of who I was and what I wanted out of life. None of those plans had anything to do with stocks, bonds, mutual funds, or retirement planning. However, a funny thing happened a few months into my career: I realized I loved learning about trends, markets, and economics. It’s a story of human behavior, action and reaction, and American innovation’s impact on our particular arc of history. A year turned into a few and now almost a quarter century later I am humbled to get to help families grow and pass on the values and assets they’ve accumulated over a lifetime.

It wasn’t a straight line. I was fortunate to meet some mentors that helped me connect the dots between capital markets and the families we serve. That connection resonated with me because of my family could have used that help when my mom was a young girl. As I started working with my clients, I wasn’t surprised to find that I cared deeply for them and loved getting to know them and their stories. I continue to be humbled that we get to be a part of our client’s journeys as we all “wander the face of the earth” and hopefully help them identify their ideas of significance and legacy.
